  006   Strict canon doesn't exist here. I have nothing against people who do adhere strictly to canon. I simply don't because I don't find it fun. All characters will be as close to how they are in canon, personality wise, but I have developed things to make them my own in some way, shape, or form. I'm always down for an AU or to find ways to put them in new and different situations. Some characters I've been writing on and off for years and that development will be clear in my writing and how I approach the characters.  007   Don't rush me. I take things at my own pace. If you haven't received a reply within two weeks and I haven't spoken to you or stated anything publicly, then you can give me a nudge and ask. • early life

Jean was born to Genevieve and Richard Durand, the second child to a couple who already had their perfect child. They had no desire to have another child and when they found out that Gigi was pregnant with Jean, it was too late to do anything about it. So they had Jean and from the very beginning, she was treated differently. Unlike her older sister, she didn't have her mom's blue eyes and blonde hair, but her dad's dark eyes and dark hair.While they didn't physically abuse her or neglect her, they did treat her lesser than. While she still had nice things for appearance sake, she didn't have the same kind of birthdays or level of presence her sister Vera did. She didn't have a lot of friends at school since her parents highly encouraged Vera to bully and spread lies about Jean.For appearance's sake, and to keep her out of the house for longer, they did allow Jean to have extracurricular activities. While they weren't to the level or number that they allowed Vera, she still eagerly took them all the same. Various art classes, cooking and baking classes, writing classes, anything creative that kept her out of the house, she eagerly took. Her parents found that they couldn't say anything horrible about Jean's cooking or artistic talents, even going so far as to further use these talents to show that they were an amazing family with a beauty queen daughter ( Vera ) and an artistic daughter who can cook amazing dishes that most people twice her age couldn't manage.

• college years

All throughout school, Jean kept her grades impeccable. She was always the top in all of her classes, always aced her tests, always asked questions and sought out tutoring in areas that she was weakest. She worked hard from a very young age, partially with the intention of using her grades to get out from her parents' roof easier since she doubted that they would pay for any kind of college.When the time came, Jean applied for multiple colleges. The acceptance letters poured in, shocking her parents and making Vera jealous. Harvard, Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah School of Art and Design, various culinary schools, and so many more. Only two schools, both smaller, turned her down. She wanted to go to culinary school or one of the art schools, but her parents refused to allow it. She wound up in Harvard, a prestigious school that her parents approved of, even among Vera's jealousy that she didn't get into Harvard but Jean did.Jean excelled in college and actually managed to make a solid group of friends for the first time in her life. She began dating, although nothing stuck, and she began truly living her life and trying to discover who she is. She even lost her virginity to a man in a one night stand the night before school started.That same man turned out to be one of Jean's teachers, much to her embarrassment. The two of them tried to remain professional, but Professor Michael Greene was anything but. He subtly manipulated Jean, pulling her to him and making her fall in love with him. They dated throughout the entirety of Jean's time at college and, every time she would break up with him, he would drag her back in. He also became very abusive during that time, convincing Jean that she deserves all of this and Jean, thanks to her parents, was conditioned to simply take it.A few days after graduation, Jean discovered some horrible truths about Michael. He had done this sort of thing for years, manipulating college students into a relationship and then abusing them. He also had two other women at the same time as Jean, although Jean was his "favorite" because she was easiest to manipulate. Horrified, Jean took off for New York without telling anyone in order to accept a job at an investment banking firm called Pierce & Pierce as a secretary. It was a position that she was technically overqualified for due to her Harvard degree, but she was eager to take anything at this point. She then broke up with Michael over a call and exposed him to her family and her friends.Almost everyone sided with Michael, much to Jean's horror. They told her that she should have known better and that she should have never been in a relationship with her professor in the first place. Her parents were particularly brutal and Jean was horrified. However, she did have a couple of friends who stood by her and one person in her family, which surprised her. Vera. Vera helped Jean break away from their parents and helped set her up with a small apartment in one of the burroughs in the city.

• present time

Jean absolutely loved being in the city and finally out of her parents' control. For the first time in her life, she felt truly free to be herself and truly discover who she was. She was happy being single and, although she had to start from scratch with some help from Vera, she was happy to finally have her own money.Jean's first day at Pierce & Pierce was absolutely chaotic, especially when paired by a particularly demanding boss by the name of Patrick Bateman. Still, all of his demands weren't too bad. She'd heard that he was one of the toughest people in the company to be a secretary for, but Jean rose to the challenge. Bateman was a little strange at times, but she felt that was miles better than a lot of the other men at the office.She whipped his schedule and life into shape, slowly bleeding into his every day without realizing it. She excelled under the pressure of Pierce & Pierce, quickly becoming one of the most beloved figures in the office since she was extremely kind to everyone and offered to help relieve those that were struggling. A few people tried to poach her away from Patrick, but she refused. By this point, she'd become attached to him and was quite comfortable with how she had everything set up.

the perfect secretary :// Jean works in New York City for an investment banking firm, Pierce & Pierce, as Patrick Bateman's personal secretary. The job is extremely stressful as Patrick does not make it easy for her, but Jean excels at it. Hope County is beautiful and she was there for two years, doing her best to avoid Eden's Gate, when shit hit the fan and 'The Reaping' began to happen.
